Have you ever thought you can write? I did and then I got out and when I did write, people said and I quote, "This is shit." The problem isn't that you can't write, the problem is the fact you can't get over the rejections. No great writer came and conquered the audience. Writing is a practice that is developed over time. It is a wine that gets better with age. And sometimes it is just plain and simply too much of an effort.
“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.” Maya Angelou
Here I quote some of the great sayings of all times by the writers we all love and adore. Hope you get inspired.
There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed. Ernest Hemingway
If you don't have time to read, you don't have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that. Stephen King
One day I will find the right words, and they will be simple. Jack Kerouac
And by the way, everything in life is writable about if you have the outgoing guts to do it, and the imagination to improvise. The worst enemy to creativity is self-doubt. Sylvia Plath
The first draft of everything is shit. -Ernest Hemingway
You never have to change anything you got up in the middle of the night to write. Saul Bellow
Read, read, read. Read everything -- trash, classics, good and bad, and see how they do it. Just like a carpenter who works as an apprentice and studies the master. Read! You'll absorb it. Then write. If it's good, you'll find out. If it's not, throw it out of the window. William Faulkner
Writing is a socially acceptable form of schizophrenia. E.L. Doctorow
Words can be like X-rays if you use them properly -- they’ll go through anything. You read and you’re pierced. Aldous Huxley
If you have any young friends who aspire to become writers, the second greatest favor you can do them is to present them with copies of The Elements of Style. The first greatest, of course, is to shoot them now, while they’re happy. – Dorothy Parker
Writing a book is a horrible, exhausting struggle, like a long bout with some painful illness. One would never undertake such a thing if one were not driven on by some demon whom one can neither resist nor understand. George Orwell
The scariest moment is always just before you start. Stephen King
There are three rules for writing a novel. Unfortunately, no one knows what they are.”W. Somerset Maugham
If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot. Stephen King
Here is a lesson in creative writing. First rule: Do not use semicolons. They are transvestite hermaphrodites representing absolutely nothing. All they do is show you've been to college. Kurt Vonnegut
Tomorrow may be hell, but today was a good writing day, and on the good writing days nothing else matters. Neil Gaiman
Writing is like sex. First you do it for love, then you do it for your friends, and then you do it for money. Virginia Woolf
This is how you do it: you sit down at the keyboard and you put one word after another until its done. It's that easy, and that hard. Neil Gaiman
Prose is architecture, not interior decoration. – Ernest Hemingway
Get through a draft as quickly as possible. Hard to know the shape of the thing until you have a draft. Literally, when I wrote the last page of my first draft of Lincoln’s Melancholy I thought, Oh, shit, now I get the shape of this. But I had wasted years, literally years, writing and re-writing the first third to first half. The old writer’s rule applies: Have the courage to write badly. – Joshua Wolf Shenk
You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you. ― Ray Bradbury
Don’t take anyone’s writing advice too seriously. – Lev Grossman
